Nelson Mandela was more than a political leader — he became a symbol of courage, equality, and reconciliation.

Born in South Africa in 1918, Mandela spent 27 years in prison because of his opposition to apartheid. After his release in 1990, he chose reconciliation over revenge and worked toward building a democratic South Africa.

In 1994, he became South Africa’s first democratically elected president. His life reminds us that even after years of hardship, it is possible to choose hope, forgiveness, and unity.
