One Man's Inspiration for a Kinder World
The Red Cross belief in the power of kindness began with a Swiss businessman in 1863.
Henry Dunant was deeply inspired by the Christian value of active charity. When he saw wounded soldiers returning from war, he was inspired to care for them, and created the organization to do so.
In addition to creating the International Red Cross, he also initiated the first Geneva Convention the very next year and received the first ever Nobel Peace Prize in 1901.
