American backpacker sacrificed everything to help children
Maggie Doyne
While trekking through Nepal, she met children working in stone quarries and living on the streets due to civil war. At just 19 years old, she used her life savings ($5,000 from babysitting) to buy land and open the Kopila Valley Children's Home. Today, she serves as the legal guardian to over 90 children and has built a green school, a women's center, and a medical clinic, dedicating her entire adult life to breaking the cycle of poverty in rural Nepal.
