Pioneered microcredit, empowered the poor, and won the Nobel Peace Prize.
Dr. Muhammad Yunus
Dr. Muhammad Yunus helped expand access to financial services for people who were often excluded from traditional banking. He founded Grameen Bank, which provides small loans, particularly to low-income borrowers and women. His microcredit model encouraged many people to start small businesses and develop independent sources of income. His work helped bring global attention to financial inclusion and poverty reduction. In 2006, he and Grameen Bank received the Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts to promote economic and social development. He also developed the concept of social business, encouraging companies to address social problems in financially sustainable ways. His ideas have influenced microfinance and social entrepreneurship programs in many countries.
