Dr. Tom Catena

Sometimes called "the world's most important doctor," Dr. Catena is an American surgeon and Catholic medical missionary who cares for a population of over one million people spread across a remote region with virtually no other specialized medical infrastructure.

Serving up to hundreds of patients per day, he has worked as the only permanent doctor in the remote, war-torn Nuba Mountains of Sudan since 2008 and was awarded the prestigious Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity in 2017 ($100K prize + $1M endowment)
